A bit about me...

James Nelson

Hello!

My name is James Nelson.

I have been playing and teaching guitar across four decades now.  I started in my teens and formed my first punk rock guitar group when I was 13 years old.  I rapidly diversified my playing styles to include blues, jazz, reggae, rock, pop, and pretty much any other form of music.

Ultimately I agree with Duke Ellington when he said “There are only two kinds of music—good music and bad music”.

I am predominantly self taught and developed my own “musical” theory early in my career.  However, in my early twenties, I was stagnating both on technique and understanding of music – so I bit the bullet and went for a set of about six lessons.  These were with a graduate of GIT (Musicians Institute) in the USA.

I learned a lot – most of all – how to trust my ears, improve my handling of the guitar itself, how to spot the intervals and chords quickly, and most of all correct my somewhat self styled “theory”.

Here at Nelsonics we want you to learn from our mistakes and fast track you into the fun and deeply satisfying worlds of music and guitar.

Have fun looking around the site: if you want some more then get in touch and we will see how we can help you.
